Homeward Bound

20130421-073041.jpg

Homeward bound after a 200 mile, 12 person, relay adventure running from Huntington Beach to San Diego. After all the excitement, the mayhem, the thrills and the spills, I’m soaking in the relaxing views of the crashing waves on my journey home.

Oh Happy Nuun!

I am running Hood to Coast with Nuun!

This morning I got the best news ever!  I’ve been fingers crossed, toes crossed, wearing my lucky necklace, dreaming, wishing and hoping that this year, I’d be picked to be a part of Nuun’s Hood to Coast relay team!

and guess what?!

My dreaming/wishing/toe/fingercrossing worked!  (along with about 8 hours of editing, perfecting and dreaming up my application! and running almost every day in my Nuun singlet).

Nuun Hood to Coast

I have been selected to run on Nuun’s Hood to Coast Relay team with an incredible group of women!  I am so honored, so grateful, and to say that I am excited is a complete and total understatement.

Photo on 4-17-13 at 9.32 AM{yes, that’s a happy endings poster – how àpropos – behind me at work}

I’ve been DYING to do this race.  So much so that I had even napkined out (not even a word, I know) a possible team to put together for next year if for some reason this year wasn’t my year.

Hood to Coast{yes, running adventures is still what I talk and dream about after a few cocktails}

But guess what — It IS meant to be!  If you recall last year, I applied and was picked as an alternate.

Somebody pinch me, please!

I can’t even begin to imagine the task of picking this team of runners and alternates with as many applications as Nuun likely received!  See them all here.  I truly can’t believe I am one of them.

thank you thank you thank you

Shocked, Devastated and Grateful.

Today threw me. I’m not alone. I think the tragedy of the Boston marathon threw all of us – those of us who run, who cheer, have friends/family that run, and those who have never run or been near a marathon course – everyone really. One of the things I have had the hardest time grappling with is that the majority of those who were injured were spectators… Our fans.. The friends, the family and the community that carry runners through the finish. For those of you who stand on the sidelines with cowbells, fog horns, hoarse voices and poster board signs, thank you. You carry us through each step of the way, you shout our name when we are struggling and re-ignite our fire, you smile, high-five, hand us water, licorice, Vaseline, oranges and make our journey possible. Thank you. Your spirit, your generosity and your selflessness don’t deserve this.

And for the runners, hailing a victory lap through the streets of Boston and up Heartbreak hill, this tragedy has succeeded in breaking our hearts. For that, I’m devastated.

I made a choice a while back to skip Boston this year and focus on making NYC my big race for the year. With my current marathon paces, 4:09 could have been close to my reality. I’m grateful. And sad. And hopeful for this beautiful running community to rise above. To race another day. To celebrate the freedom that running brings us.

Sending love, prayers and heart to all impacted by today’s events.

The Best {and Worst} Monday of the Year.

updated after this morning’s tragedy.  I am devastated by the news and the title of my post is downright eerie. The joke on it being April 15th – tax day – was in no means meant to be as sick as it now appears.  I am sending prayers, love and wishes to all who ran today, all who cheered today and all who know people surrounding today’s marathon. with so much love.

xx

For some April 15th may be the worst Monday of the year…., but for me, it is one of the best Mondays of the Year — ok the best.

Running Boston Marathon last year was a true honor. An honor to run such a prestigious course.  An honor to be among the most elite runners in the world. An honor to contribute more than $8500 towards Cancer Research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center with Fred’s Team.   An honor to push myself up heartbreak hill knowing that the people I was running for had suffered so much more than I was in that moment.  It was a true honor.

Fred’s Team posted this photo the other day of in a very happy moment of the race last year and I would be lying if I weren’t a twinge bit kicking myself and wishing I were there this year.  Boston 2012

Wishing all the Boston Runners on Fred’s Team and all of my other running blogger friends  Katharine, Sarah, Pam, Jessica an incredible 26.2.

I’ll be streaming the race from my office here.

Right on Track.

image

I woke up at the #bcod today with the crazy desire to be the first one on track.

image

Yeah, this track.
imageKnew I had a very short window to get a decent run in before cars would be flying around this track upwards of 145MPH so I slugged out a couple of miles at about…oh a 7MPH pace. Funny how speedy has a totally different meaning here.

The track’s about 2.6 miles a loop so I got in a few laps with the homies #1 and #3 while testing out a brand new pair of Kinvara 4′s which hit stores on May 1. I only put about 7 miles on them this morning so I’m holding my review on them for a bit, but for today’s run – I can say I found my #kickassimus in them. (Homie #2 was not interested in getting up at all)

It was a pretty sweet way to watch the sun rise and get a little quiet time before the engines started roaring around this track.  Now I’m off to be a #racecarwife for the rest of the day.  I’ll be posting a lot of pictures on Instagram if you want to check out any of the action – like this!

Another Race Weekend

Nope.  Not me this time!

image

We’re off to God’s country somewhere,  honestly I really don’t know, and if you’ve heard of Buttonwillow Raceway that makes two of you (you and the Mr.)

I’m excited though. I love watching the Mr. in his element, pursuing his passion for racing, competing and experiencing the thrill that racing delivers both of us.

For all the cheering and race support he throws my way, its fun to reverse the roles and support him. And the great thing about this whiskey tango RV we own is that there’s room for everyone to come!!! (And everyone has their favorite spot too)
